Engine Mounts

Recommended Posts

If it ever stops raining, I will change the engine mounts on my M57 530d. I have a support beam for the engine as I don't like using the jack on the oil pan. I've been chatting with @Gonzo about how to proceed so hopefully, I can complete the project soon; weather permitting. 🍿

If anyone has any hints or tips, I would welcome them.

Meanwhile, back to the ark building 😆

On turbo side you will need to remove engine mount bracket from engine, otherwise I can't see how to get new engine mount in place. You can't lift engine high enough to get enough space. Other side seems a bit easier to get in, maybe due to no turbo or steering system in way like on driver's side.

I used timber beam over engine bay, chain through engine lift hook and oven jack so you can rise or lower engine, whichever you need.

Car in picture is f11, but the same idea with work on all of them.

Now that is an innovative way of lifting the engine 👏🏼

I did wonder about the turbo side; @Gonzo said I may need to remove the bracket. If it ever stops raining, I will try and replace them.

Thank you for your input @Ray112

Make sure you have e torx sockets handy, I'm quite sure there was quite a few e torx bolts if you need to remove bracket.

Yes, the two bolts on the mount are E10 torx. I think the others are E12. I have a range of E-Torx sockets.

The rain stopped briefly, so I stopped work on my ark and had a look at the RH side engine mount bracket. Sadly, the access is limited and my Capuchin monkey isn't available. @Gonzosuggested some wobble extensions, so that will be my next step.

Maybe of help but on the e39 (with same engine) there were various vacuum hoses that serve the engine mounts - mine were perished in places so worth having a few meters of hose on hand.

Thanks, I checked the hoses and one looks dodgy. Thankfully I have some hose on the shelf.
